Ideology In Wreck It Ralph

Wreck It Ralph Ideology & Grand Narrative

WIR presents 3 grand narratives, all ideology that is presented by a western and predominately american world. WIR follows modernistic ideology of Freedom, Christianity and Democracy.

Freedom
Characters from various games are allowed to cross over into other games, allowing them total freedom when the game is not being played. They do this via the extension lead that all games are plugged into. Characters can interact and play within other games but they must be careful as they will not re-spawn if they die. This presents freedom within a society and an overall democratic way of life, rules are presented and followed. A game must not cross over to another game when being played as this creates a scenario called 'Turbo', ultimately ending in the game being shut down.

Christianity

Although boundaries between characters are deconstructed an overall reference and narrative to christianity is very prominent. The narrative is how ralph longs to be a hero and to do this he must sacrifice himself for the one he cares for and the whole arcade. This relates to the idea of Jesus sacrificing himself for a cause and what he believed was right, a western idea of a hero's path. This has been the ideological view of a hero in modern times, though Propps  theories we can show how a hero must always prevail.

Democracy/Anti-Monarchy

The third key 'Grand Narrative' is the idea of democracy and the collapsing of monarchs. American is the land of the free and home to brave and prides itself on its democratical way of life, much like WIR. ALthough in one game 'Sugar Rush' a monarchy is present an overall king/queen rule, they are elected but born or in this case coded into royalty. At the end when Vanellope the princess is transformed into the Queen she choses to resign and for the land of sugar rush to be equal and free, much like other games and of course like America. America are very anti-monarhcy and the narrative of a monarchy being broken down to form a democracy is the perfect ideology for a western world.

All narratives and structures work to overall morality and ideological views that the American way of life is in fact the dream. The idea of freedom, willing to fight for your freedom and being able to have your say is the dream.

Press Complaint

Upheld: Adjudication - A woman v The Sun

This is an example of an upheld complaint against theSun, The Sun has published an article on 'The Woman's' Brother whom of which was convicted of a high profile murder and detailed her with her full name. She claimed the sun had breached Clause 9, the Adjudication found that the Sun had broken Clause 9 which states that "relatives or friends of persons convicted or accused of crime should not generally be identified without their consent, unless they are genuinely relevant to the story"

Not Upheld: Gary & Danielle Lineker v The Sun

This complaint was from Gary & Danielle Lineker against the Sun that they had harassed and breached privacy. The article was all around Gary Lineker leaving Twitter and the paper suspected it was due to other allegations made and wanted to follow it up. They made contact with Gary, his agent and family but it was not upheld as they did not break privacy and only contacted each individual once therefore it was not classed as harassment and was not upheld.

Theorists

Frankfurt School, Hyperdermic Needle:
'The Hypodermic Needle Theory suggests that the media ‘injects’ its messages straight into the audience with suggestions designed to trigger a specific desired response. The theory states the audience is entirely passive and is immediately affected by the media’s messages, as the Media’s hold over the public is so intense that the public is essentially unable to escape from its influence.'

Laura Mulvey:
Mulvey suggests that the audience view the films in two ways: voyeuristically and fetishistically. As audiences watch films without being watched by the characters they become onlookers of their lives. Therefore they become voyeurs of the people on screen. This can lead to two effects: objectification and narcissistic identification. Voyeurism involves turning the represented figure into a fetish so it becomes increasingly beautiful but more objectified.

Mind Map ideas for Music Video

Chosen Song 'Never Be Alone'

Artist Research 1 : Dave Anqii Social Media

Dave has a strong social media base, he currently has around 4000 likes, subscribers and followers which is a good fan base for the genre but his youtube page is where his strength is, clocking in over 500,000 views.

Artist Research 1 : Dave Anqii Bio

Davor Simonovic AKA (Dave Anqii) that his real name is the young Swedish house producer. Dave Anqii was born in 1995, coming from Serbia, Belgrade, but was born in Sweden. He started producing in 2002 and continues apparently to come! Dave Anqii says he makes music for his fans out there who really like what he does. Anqii says, All I'm trying to do - in my DJing, my production - is about sharing feelings. When I make music in the studio that's all I'm looking for. That is what matters most.In early 2002, I held on with (Hardstyle / Techno / Reggaeton and (Break Beat). In 2006, I started then with the House / Electronic music.Dave felt that hardstyle was not quite what he wanted! When he was listening to House music every day, He started to feel something ... Just as Avicii's hit with Sebastien Drumz "My Feelings For You".

When looking on unsigned.com we found Dave,  we like his look and style instantly. He comes across well presented and we could easily find him across all forms of social media. As house becomes a bigger genre and with more and more people attending festivals we believe that to find an artist that is talented and unsigned is a big thing.

We will research Dave's social media and find out more about him before contacting him with information and details of the music video.

DigiPack: Photoshop 'Drake - Thank Me Later'

Drake - Thank Me Later Digipack

My Own Version Vs Original

How I did it:
Step 1: Select and crop my face to use for the artwork

Step 2: Posterize to 4 levels, select red and yellow layers to delete

Step 3: Once I had deleted certain layers I then made the image black and white and duplicated it 3 times.

Step 4: I made the duplicated layer red, orange and darker orange and moved them slightly to give and outlined effect. I then added a blur more filter to blend the layers

Step 5: Finally I added text and logos to finish the artwork.

Target Audience & Why is House Music Attractive

RD - Do it Like Me

Difference
They are different because of they way they present themselves. They are wearing un-feminine dark clothing, that suggests they grungers, their music is more hip-hop therefore challenging and counteracting their look.
Target audience
Their target audience is urban street, they have put London in the back ground, however they are on what looks like an abandoned buildings roof, showing rebellion, that they are not supposed to be their, This is also reinforced by the shots of graffiti'ing and street art on buildings. An act that is illegal, showing rebellion against society.
analyse attitudes and values
They portray an aggressive attitude which contradicts the music, I believe their values and attitudes relate to a hip-hop culture which we analysed in teen sub-cultures. The values of power and being independent are clearly shown and with the style of video it enforces theses attitudes.

Hip-Hop - Teen Subculture

Hip Hop

Hip-Hop is a rap culture predominantly very American, Hip-Hop values and attitudes focuses arounds rap, graffiti, Dj'ing, money and style. Hip-Hop is a very criminal sub-genre with the main portion of the music being about money, drugs and women. They are feared by many mainstream cultures due to their fashion, aggressive behaviour and values, they go against the mainstreams values by enforcing bad behaviour. Hip Hop is a very competitive culture and is gang orientated, they are very extravagant wearing a lot of jewellery and driving sports car. This is a ego thing and is to try and out do and show other rappers how much they have. 'Rack City' by Tyga shows everything about the hip-hop culture and focuses on their values and attitudes.

Punk - Teen Subcultures

Punk is all about the crazy hairstyles and being an eyesaw. They generally want to rebel against society's norms and make a point about it.

This music video shows the punk rock look by the crazy spike hairstyles, tattoos, guitars, and location. They generally wear dark clothing with a hint of bright colour. The target audience is punk, as it is relatable, also a sense of rebellion being in an abandoned location, they are making people change.

They differ from mainstream by rebelling from it. There are some mainstream artists that genre in Punk for example Avril Lavigne. But most punk tracks are not mainstream as they are rebellions.
